I remember my mum back in the 90s deciding if she should do a facelift or travel to New York for her 50th birthday.
She thought plastic surgery was more important as she was then experiencing an invasion of young work colleagues with their piercings and pink hair in her workplace.
She felt insecure about her age and losing her job.
My mum was a very experienced and rewarded journalist working in the TV industry for decades.
She worked at the major tv channel in Brazil, she had a master degree in Paris, an award in journalism, but all that she thought was that she could lose her job anytime for someone nearly the age as her daughter.
That was when I first heard about ageism.
When women turn 50, they can become invisible, as if they lost their value and they are not welcome in the workforce anymore.
30 years after we can still see this happening, but much less. I hope.
IT IS SHIFTING, WE ARE STEPPING INTO OUR POWER, UPDATING, UPSKILLING, ADAPTING, PIVOTING, SHOWING UP AND SPEAKING UP.
A woman over 50 today doesn’t even look like a woman over 50 from the past generation.
It was the time, that a woman just accepted anything quietly wearing florals blouses and beige pants.
THERE IS A MIDLIFE WOMEN REVOLUTION HAPPENING.
If you are suffering in silence not knowing how to deal with peri or menopausal symptoms, there are plenty of resources, books and groups to help.
Get educated. Get better. Take some action.
If you are looking for a personal approach towards your health, I created Women’s Wellness program to help women over 40 to step in and take care of their wellbeing.
It is tailored to this age group focusing on what a body in the second stage of life needs: diet, exercise, mindset, stress management.
